Steve Clark author and attorney shares an excerpt from his new novel – Justice Is for the Deserving
After I’d downed two cups, Mize finally came out. He was how I imagined a foreclosure lawyer—skinny, with rimless glasses Ben Franklin might have worn, and pasty skin. He walked with his head thrust forward on his giraffe neck, like he spent too much time staring at a computer.
I don’t know why it took me thirty-two years to figure men out. One plus one does equal two. So, I’d worn the gold stud earrings I’d bought with my first partner paycheck and my matching gold cross pendant. They’re dynamite with a white blouse against my Dago skin. Two undone top buttons and a push-up bra made all things look possible.
As I uncrossed my legs and stood, he beamed at my knee-length skirt with the six-inch slit. He was all mine.
